With 16 caps in 42 England appearances, the last of which came in 2018 against Switzerland, time appeared to be up on Danny Welbeck's international career some time ago.
But a renaissance at Brighton has seen the 34-year-old mentioned as an outside bet to be included in Thomas Tuchel's first squad.
An FA Cup winner at Newcastle on Sunday was an eighth goal of the season and Tuchel's fellow countryman, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was full of praise afterwards for Welbeck's contribution to his side's excellent campaign.
