Fifa confirm England seeding

England will be among four seeded teams when the 2026 World Cup draw is made early in December.

Thomas Tuchel's side join Spain (1), Argentina (2) and France (3) in being seeded and Fifa have confirmed that the quartet will be kept apart until the semi-finals of the competition at least if they all win their respective groups.

Spain and Argentina will be placed in opposite sides of the draw so can only meet in the final under the above scenario and the same applies to France and England.

The seedings are based on the most recent Fifa rankings, published on 19 November.

Although teams from the same confederation are being kept apart in the group stage, there will be two European teams in four of the twelve groups, leaving open the possibility of England meeting either Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland should either of the latter two come through the play-offs (where they will meet should they both win their respective semi-finals).
