Friday call for last England squad of 2025

Thomas Tuchel names the final Three Lions squad of the year this Friday, the England manager in the happy position of knowing his side have already secured 2026 World Cup qualification ahead of their final two group matches, at home to Serbia and away in Albania.

Does that mean Tuchel will use the international window for some experimentation before nailing down his squad next year, or will there be limited changes given the steady progress seen of the past couple of months, September and October having seen a step change in performances?

In addition to the Jude Bellingham question, recent speculation has focused on whether Danny Welbeck could earn a recall over seven years after his last England appearance, in a post World Cup friendly against Switzerland at Leicester's King Power Stadium back in September 2018.

"If you look at the forward options in Tuchel's last squad there aren't many obvious stand-ins for Harry Kane," Alan Shearer told BBC Sport in the wake of Welbeck's weekend goal against Leeds, a sixth in ten Premier League games this season.

"Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen, Bukayo Saka aren't going to fill that role and Ollie Watkins hasn't been firing for Aston Villa, so any English striker scoring goals in the Premier League is going to be talked about."
