Panama begin preparations for England test

One of England's World Cup group opponents are in action this week with Panama having two friendly fixtures to begin their preparation for the 2026 tournament in North America.

Former Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has been in charge of the team since 2020, with some impressive results in that time in the CONCACAF Nations League and Gold Cup as well as securing qualification to face England, Ghana and Croatia later this year.

Panama face Bolivia on Sunday before a home game against World Cup hosts Mexico on Thursday.

With the games falling outside of the international window, a largely home-based squad of players has been chosen by Christiansen so may not bear too much resemblance to the group of players chosen in the summer.

England face Panama in their final group game on Saturday 27 June and begin their preparations with a Wembley double-header against Uruguay and Japan at the end of March.

Croatia will take on Colombia and Brazil in the USA at the same time while Ghana will test themselves with a friendly in Germany.
