Watching brief and waiting game for England boss Tuchel

Life as an international football manager can be very different to that experienced at club level and for England manager Thomas Tuchel this may feel like the longest period of what is expected to be just over a year-and-a-half in the job.

Having seen his players close up for the first time in March, England easing to World Cup qualifying victories against Albania and Latvia, Tuchel now has to wait until early June for his next chance to hone the group that he hopes to take to the 2026 finals.

That means a watching brief at the busiest time of the club season as domestic and European honours are fought over and Tuchel, still seen as a manager with designs on those trophies, may find it difficult to just be a spectator at big Premier League, La Liga or Champions League clashes.

The June international window can feel like an add-on after all that excitement and the prospect of a routine win in Andorra is unlikely to change that or add much in the way of new information for Tuchel to take forward to next season.

Thankfully the people of Nottingham have responded fantastically to the City Ground hosting the friendly with Senegal on June 10, tickets selling out quickly for the game and ensuring what will hopefully be a great atmosphere.
