Could Ever-Present Duo Get England Call?

Conor Coady and Ben Mee have ended the Premier League season as ever-presents for their respective clubs, the duo being the only England qualified outfield players to have been on the pitch for all 3,420 minutes of the top-flight campaign.

Wolves skipper Coady has been unlucky in the past not to have got the call to the senior squad, according to the man in charge of picking it, England manager Gareth Southgate.

Speaking after naming his most recent squad, for the March Euro 2020 qualifiers, local Wolverhampton newspaper the Express & Star quoted Southgate as saying: "He’s playing as a sweeper in a back three, so it’s very different to how anybody else in the Premier League is playing.

"He’s having an outstanding season and you can’t fail to be impressed.

"He’s very comfortable on the ball, but it’s quite difficult to put that into a back four."

29-year-old Mee, meanwhile, has seen Clarets colleague James Tarkowski selected recently.

Quoted in the Burnley Express, England international Michael Keane said of his former team-mate and fellow central defender: "It is hard luck he has not had a call-up.

"He's been brilliant for some years now.

"I don't think he can do much more but if he continues doing what he's been doing then maybe one day he will. When he does he will fully deserve it."
