Chelsea defender Maria Thorisdottir hopes Norway can avenge their defeat by England in the 2015 World Cup when the two sides go head-to-head in Le Havre on Thursday evening for a place in the last four.

Their previous World Cup meeting was at the last 16 stage and won 2-1 by England but Thorisdottir told the official FIFA website that Norway are 'stronger on and off the pitch than we were in 2015.'

That strength comes despite, or perhaps because of, the absence of Lyon star Ada Hegerberg from the national team set-up.

The 26-year-old will be trying to keep out England's in-form striker Ellen White in the quarter-final, Lionessess boss Phil Neville telling the media prior to the game that White, scorer of four goals at the tournament to date, had become a penalty box predator in the manner of his former teammate Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
