England Skipper Faces Injury Absence

Harry Kane’s New Year injury has been confirmed as a torn hamstring with Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho refusing to talk about how long the England captain would be out of action for.

Even in a difficult season to date for the North London side Kane has remained Spurs’ key man with 27 goals in all competition for club and country to date.

If England’s friendlies in late March prove too early for the striker then Gareth Southgate will face the choice of sticking with his current crop of attacking players, all of whom have shown excellent form for the national side this season, or handing a call-up to someone like Danny Ings of Southampton after his role in the Saints revival over the past couple of months.

The Three Lions manager will not have been too surprised that the busy festive period has thrown up an injury or two but will be hopeful that a break will do his skipper no harm ahead of this summer’s European Championship.
