Friday sees the start of the UEFA European Under-17 Championships.

The FA is hosting the tournament with England kicking things off against Israel in a game that will be played at Chesterfield FC and televised live by ITV4.

England are world champions at Under-17 level but a whole new squad is now charged with continuing the recent good form shown in major tournaments and coach Steve Cooper has named the 20 players he will use during the competion.

Speaking to The Guardian ahead of the tournament, Cooper said of the opening game: “Israel are a really good team – we’ve studied them closely.

"Some people may look at the fixture and think it’s going to be straightforward but it’ll be far from it.

"They qualified comprehensively in a tough group; they play good football, they’ve got good attacking players and we’ll be showing them maximum respect.”
