England Won't Face Heartbreaker Mandzukic

Mario Mandzukic has announced his retirement from international football and will not be part of the Croatia team that faces England in this Autumn's UEFA Nations League.

The 32-year-old scored the winning goal against the Three Lions in the World Cup semi-final before an eventful 90 minutes in the final against France when he netted at both ends.

"There is no ideal time to go," said the Juventus forward

"If we can, I believe that we all would play for Croatia so long as we're still alive because there is no greater pride. But I feel that the moment is for me now."

Croatia host England, in League A, Group 4 of the Nations League, on 12 October 2018 with the game set to be played behind closed doors as part of a UEFA punishment againstt the Croatian FA.

The return fixture at Wembley is scheduled for 18 November.
