England supporters have named Tottenham striker Harry Kane as their Three Lions Player of 2017 after he netted seven goals for the national team in the calendar year.

"To play your part in reaching the finals of a World Cup is every young footballer’s dream and I’d like to thank all of my international team-mates for the part they played in that journey," Kane told the FA website.

Former World Cup Golden Boot winner Gary Lineker told the BBC: "Harry Kane is more capable of scoring different kinds of goals than I was but you still need a team behind you to support you to get yourself in that position.

"If he wins the Golden Boot, it means England will be doing pretty well, which will be a great thing."
