Jamie Vardy says the time is right for him to end his England career ahead of Gareth Southgate's squad announcement for the upcoming UEFA Nations League match against Spain and the friendly with Switzerland which will be played on Vardy's home ground in Leicester.

The Foxes frontman played at both Euro 2016 and Russia 2018 to complete his meteoric rise from Non-League football to Premier League winner.

"I'm not getting any younger and you can see, to be fair to the gaffer, he wants to make it more youthful, which obviously had its benefits during the World Cup."

Vardy, winner of 26 caps in total since making his debut against Ireland in June 2015, told the Guardian, however, that he will answer Southgate's call should he have an injury crisis in future with the same newspaper adding that Gary Cahill has also called time on his international career.
