The most interesting name in the squad is that of Etienne Green, Colchester-born but raised in France and currently the starting goalkeeper for Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne.

Earlier this year he was part of the French under-21 squad at the European Championships but subsequent interest from the FA in his availability has led him, at this stage of his career, to declare his international future to be with England.

It is one example of many of players with the option of representing more than one nation and also of the English radar operating far and wide for eligible talent.

Another comes in the form of Charlie Setford, also a goalkeeper, picked for England under-18's ahead of their training camp and fixture with Wales in Newport on 3 September.

Born in the Netherlands to English parents, the 17-year-old Ajax custodian told the Football Oranje website recently of his reasons for not choosing Holland as his international team.
