Sol Campbell has taken on the task of keeping Macclesfield Town in the Football League with the 44-year-old taking on his first managerial role.

Capped 73 times by England, Campbell recently worked with Under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd as part of a Football Association initiative to address the issue of under-representation of BAME coaches.

The holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, Campbell will look to reduce the five point gap between the Silkmen and the rest at the foot of League Two.

Campbell becomes only the second member of the 2002 England World Cup squad to currently be involved in management along with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

Of the 1998 squad Campbell, Southgate and Solihull Moors manager Tim Flowers are currently in the hotseat while Campbell, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard from 2006 are in managerial roles.
