Vokes, Heaton and Ings get international calls

Sam Vokes is close to the Euro Finals

Wales have not qualified for the finals of any competition since going to Sweden for the 1958 World Cup, but only a freak set of results would prevent them making the Euros in France next year.

The Welsh squad will travel to Zenica to play Bosnia & Herzegovina a week on Saturday, 10th October, before returning home to play Andorra on the following Tuesday. They need one point to ensure a place in the finals after what has been a remarkable campaign from them.

Vokes has been named in Chris Coleman's squad. He's been in there throughout under Coleman, other than when he was out with his cruciate injury, and will report looking to extend the 35 caps he's already won since making his debut as a Wolves player in May 2008.

Once they've got that point, and assuming Sam is called up, he could be set to be the first Burnley player ever to play in the Euro finals.

There was also more than passing interest at Roy Hodgson's squad for their last two qualifying games. These are academic in that England have already qualified and this might be the time for Tom Heaton to win his first cap.

He's been in the squad for the last four internationals and has now been called up for these two games.  England are at Wembley on Friday 9th October for the last home game against Estonia before playing Lithuania in on Monday 12th October.

Tom will be joined by a former Burnley team mate too. Danny Ings has received a first ever call up and I'm sure Burnley supporters will be delighted if he, too, gets an England debut at full international level.

It won't harm our bid for compensation either.

Congratulations to all three on their call ups.
